On Monday 15 February 2010 a wine reception was held to celebrate the publication of Youth Prolonged: Old Age Postponed by Professor Robert Weale who is currently Emeritus Professor at the Institute of Gerontology. In his new book, Professor Weale asks some searching questions both for contemporary science and for society at large. Professor Weale's unique work asks readers to re-consider their ideas of what it means to age, and allows them to gain a better understanding of what can and cannot slow down the ageing process.
The event was held at the Strand Campus, King's College London, and began with an introduction by Baroness Sally Greengross, former Director General of Age Concern England, followed by a short presentation by Professor Emily Grundy of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine on 'Ageing past, present and future: demographic perspectives'. Both Baroness Greengross and Professor Grundy commended Professor Weale on authoring a most informative book. A short question and answer session followed the presentations, after which guests were invited to enjoy the wine and canap¨¦s on offer and take the opportunity to meet the author.
The book launch was a lovely event with a great turnout. The books proved very popular with the guests, many of whom had their copy signed by Professor Weale.
